Getting to Southampton
Travelers to Southampton, UK will find that there are multiple ways to get to the city. Whether you are coming from elsewhere in the UK, a location in Europe, or the Americas, Africa, or Asia, you will find several options when traveling to Southampton.
By Plane
Southampton does have an airport, the Southampton International Airport. It is on the small side, but if you're coming from somewhere else in the UK or select cities in Europe you'll be able to fly right in to Southampton International Airport. If you're coming from elsewhere abroad, you'll have to get a flight to one of the cities that Southampton International Airport services and switch over to a different flight. The other option would be to fly into a nearby UK city, such as one of the airports in London, and get into Southampton by train or by bus. Southampton is about an hour or so from Heathrow Airport in London. Once you arrive at the Southampton International Airport, you can get into the center of the city by bus or train.
By Train
There are several rail lines that run from different cities in the southern England area into Southampton. Most of them go to London, but there are also some that go to locations such as Winchester, Bristol, Bath, Birmingham, Cardiff, Salisbury, and Reading.
By Bus
Southampton is serviced by two different bus companies, Megabus and National Express. However, both of these bus lines are somewhat limited in their service to Southampton. Both lines offer only service into London to the Victoria Coach Station. However, the Megabus tickets are extremely discounted and can be a good bargain for anyone on a budget.
By Car
If you have your own car in the area or are planning to rent a car, you can choose to drive into Southampton. It's easy to drive to Southampton from most of the major cities, including London. There are also a good amount of car parks in Southampton and right outside the city, as well as some areas that have street side parking, and a park and ride just outside of the city for those attending the football game there.
